The crew (Sarah Lillegard) over at The Holland Project has been great at showcasing and improving the arts in Reno, and she recently took a few of my pieces for an upcomming show, so thats awesome.  Here is a really cool photography show about skateboarding, graffiti and punk music they will be featuring at their gallery, read on....

Tri-X-Noise
The Holland Project Gallery presents works by subculture and street photographers Bill Daniel, Ray Potes and Jai Tanju— opening on October 7 at 6:00pm.

Reno, NV—The Holland Project Gallery is excited to announce the first Reno exhibition of photographers Bill Daniel, Ray Potes and Jai Tanju. Tri-X-Noise will feature a range of images and photographic projects from all three photographers reflecting their influences of living in and documenting punk, skate and graffiti cultures. The exhibit runs Oct. 7-Nov. 5, 2011, with the opening reception Friday Oct. 7 from 6-9PM. On Saturday Oct. 8 from 6-8PM at the Holland Project Gallery on 140 Vesta St., Bill Daniel will also be screening his film Who Is Bozo Texino? with question and answer session to follow.

For Tri-X-Noise, Bill Daniel will be exhibiting black and white prints from his early skate and punk documentation as well as recent 35mm work and pieces from other projects including hobo monikers and San Francisco street graffiti. Beginning in 1980, Daniel cut his photography teeth on shooting Kodak Tri-X film of punk shows, including Black Flag and Minor Threat and skate sessions around Dallas and Austin, TX. A Guggenheim Fellowship recipient and self-pronounced tramp and documentarian, Daniel has since toured the country numerous times over setting up countless DIY film and art shows in various and improbable venues. Of Daniel’s prolific body of work his most recognizable film is Who is Bozo Texino? which he shot on 16 and 8mm film documenting hobo monikers and train hopping over the course of 16 years. The film has since earned a cult following as well as screened at the MOMA, Deitch Projects, Red Cat, and festivals world-wide. Daniel will be screening and discussing Who is Bozo Texino? on Saturday October 8 from 6-8PM at the Holland Project Gallery on 140 Vesta St.  with admission being five dollars.

Also featured in the exhibit will be photographers Jai Tanju and members of the San Francisco based photo collective Hamburger Eyes including Ray Potes. As curator for the exhibit, Daniel explains Tanju and Potes photographs and projects as ‘having the same impulse and shared love of classic street photography” as his own.

Tanju is the founder of Film Por Vida, the Photo Exchange Program. Inspired by Ray Johnson and the New York Correspondence school, Film Por Vida is a mail exchange program for photographic prints with a network of over 200 photographers worldwide. Looking through the collection of photos gives the viewer a glimpse into what is going on quietly, or sometimes quite loudly, in the corners of the world. Within Tri-X-Noise, Tanju will be showcasing prints he has received from the Exchange as well as photographs he has sent out to other contributors.

Hailing from a similar network of photographers, Ray Potes will be featuring photographs from the photo ‘zine Hamburger Eyes as well as other images associated with the loose collective. Since its inception over 10 years ago, Hamburger Eyes has grown from a Xeroxed ‘zine to a slew of other photography ‘zines, a book and a darkroom/gallery space, Photo Epicenter, in the Mission District. The photographs featured in Hamburger Eyes itself serve as pictorial history of the unseen moments of everyday life and has the set the bar for the generation of photography ‘zines that have followed.

All three of the photographers will be at the opening reception as well as the Saturday screening to discuss and answer questions regarding their work and influences.
